Scientific Advances
The Chinese achieved quite a bit of scientific discoveries during specifically the Han dynasty. Most of their scientific discoveries are still being used today, like their records of comets, which they called broom stars; the incredible invention of the seismograph, which has been tested today and been proven to work only for earthquakes; and their astounding discovery on the abilities of lodestone, a magnet. Most of the things they invented or discovered are common things that we take advantage of everyday, like magnets, earthquake warnings, and reminders of passing comets in the night sky.
However, what the Chinese are most well known for recording and discovering is their advanced astronomy, most of which is still used today. That means that things discovered a little after 200 B.C. are being used currently, nearly 2,210 years ago! (Read more on the Astronomy tab above.)

One of the other things the Chinese are well known for discovering is the early detection of earthquakes maybe hundreds of miles away. The tool they used for this was called the seismograph, ( Read more on the Seismograph tab above.)
Another amazing discovery the Chinese found is that lodestone tended to align itself with the north and south directions. They used the force to their advantage by making a compass, which looked similar to a ladle. The main reason they invented the compass though was to align all of their churches, homes, graveyards, etc.
